The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) was established in 1997 to provide new coverage opportunities for children in families with incomes too high to qualify for Medicaid, but who cannot afford private coverage. Ohio has about 3,000 Ohioans enrolled in the CHIP program. Ohio has decided to pick up the federal share of the cost of the program till the end of the year. This program has bipartisan support so let’s hope Congress re-instates the CHIP program by the end of the year or we could have some Ohioans losing their Medicaid insurance coverage.
